Wolverines, Sociopaths
by patio34 ini've been doing some reading about sociopaths or people who have "antisocial personality disorder.
" one book states 1 in 25 people are sociopathic.. this basically means someone without a conscience facility.
someone who cannot empathsize with others.

I know of one for certain - even diagnosed by a psychiatrist as 'narcissistic'. He has no respect for human life whatsoever. He has finally come around to 'acting' like a nicer person but I know that deep down nothing has really changed. He's just putting on for the sake of his own survival.
There is another guy I suspect of being a sociopath also. What's ironic is that some of these types seem to love their immediate families. That is - as long as they don't stand in the way of the psycho getting what they want!

Do JWs ever use their donations/WT profits to help the less-fortunate?
by sonnyboy ini was a jw for a number of years as a kid, but i don't remember them doing anything to help the community.
many churches in my area have soup kitchens, clothing/toy drives, and other services to help people in need.
do jehovah's witnesses ever use proceeds in this way, or are they all used to make more watchtowers, books, and kingdom halls?

(editing self) Lack of compassion from the dubs helped me learn that true compassion is demonstrated by actions when comforting words alone are not enough to help the situation. Sure paradise earth sounds great. But you can't sleep in it (right now) or put it in the oven to feed your hunger. People need REAL HELP and the WTBTS just keeps on offering the same BS all the while patting themselves on the back for being so loving in sharing the f'ing good news ... that's all I can stand. I gotta go.

They say oh if we were a charity everyone would become JWs for the hand outs but what about those who did prove loyal and industrious to the org, like your relative she deserves some recognition, peace, and security in her old age whether the big A is near or not.
Exactly greendawn!
Luv2b - I am with you. I feel good helping people whenever I can. Even if it's just a few cents. When I was trapped in dubdumb we had some really hard times and it's not like the so-called 'friends' didn't notice. Hell, a lot of them thought it was funny. That taught me compassion, even though I have always been a compassionate person.

Do they have the common decency to offer at least a small pension to those that spent their entire lives as full time preachers promoting their interests?
Greendawn - My ex-mom-out-law has been pioneering since she was in her twenties. Now she's late 60's, maybe 70 and as far as I know she's still going. She has no health insurance, no pension plan, little Social Security since she hasn't worked full time for more than 4 years of her life. What is the WTBTS Retirement plan for her? 'Keep living with and depending on your JW daughter like you have the past 20 years - never mind the new husgand she's got - stay as long as they can tolerate you. If it doesn't work out ... go find someone else to take care of you. But don't worry, the end is so close. It won't be much longer.' (50 years and counting ...)

That "Keep on the Watch" brochure was left with my children by my ex-dubby. Actually, its the only piece of WT litter-ature that I have . Even though I haven't been to a meeting since '98, its the same ole chicken-little-the-sky-is-falling-serve Jehovah-now-before-it's-too-late full blown bullS**t I remember from my 12 years of cult indoctrination. I hate it. And I'm so glad I don't have to study it .
es - I wonder what she'll have to say when August rolls around? LOL

Hello - and welcome to the board Lana .
Becoming a JW is a life-changing commitment to be sure. Take the advise offered here and do your research 'apart' from the Witnesses before you make any drastic decisions, like baptism. They demand way too much from converts for you to take the decision to 'study' with them lightly.
An organization that claims to be THE TRUTH must be able to substantiate those claims apart from it's own recent & current literature. JW beleifs have changed a lot over the years. Do your homework.
Hope you stay around. There are a lot of good researchers on this forum who can direct to various sources, some non-watchtower related, others directly from their own publications.

JW terminology really gets my goat
by Ellie in.
i don't know if its just me or if anyone else feels the same but it really annoys me when jehovahs witnesses use their terminology when speaking to a non jw.. for example, a jw woman is talking to a collegue who has never had a bible study and knows nothing about jws.. instead of saying "i have a friend coming for tea tonight" the woman says " one of the sisters is coming for tea tonight".. or, instead of "i was talking to a friend on the phone last night" she says "i was talking to an elder on the phone last night".. it just really winds me up, i think they do it to seem important and mysterious but it only leaves the other person confused.

GBL - Your mom hit the nail on the head with that one! ROFLMAO
When I was in high school I had a "worldly" girlfriend that came over to my house and overheard my mom and her friend talking about some "sister" who was "new in the truth". She asked me what "the truth" was and I told her it was our religion. She replied, total deadpan, "You guys are f**king nuts".

Young JWs-living a lie
by Jez infor the past year, i have been observing the jw kids that i know.
i am in a unique situation as i work at the local high school, therefore see many of them on a daily basis.
let me tell you, 80% of them are totally undistinguishable as jws.

The more I learn about JW's here on the forum the more they (we) seem/seemed like everybody else.
I can remember 'church kids' in school doing the same as everyone else - Witness kids are probably no different today.
The 'troof' is a lie ... period. And the more they say about how 'pure' and 'clean' they are the more evidence piles up against them.
